PHILIPPINES: Samal Island

Samal Island is the closest beach to Davao City, just a quick boat ride away! It boasts beautiful white, fine sand that rivals even Boracay. Perfect for a relaxing getaway! 🏖️✨

How to get to Samal Island?

Getting to Samal Island from Manila:

  1. Fly to Davao City: Take a plane from Manila to Davao City.
  2. Travel to the Port/Dock: Once in Davao, you can take a taxi or jeepney to the port, depending on your resort destination:
    • For Paradise Resort: They have their own dock, and you can catch a boat for just 15 pesos.
    • For other resorts on Samal Island: You'll need to take a ferry boat, which costs about 10 pesos.

From Davao City Proper:
You can ride a jeepney in front of BPO Abreeza Mall to Sasa Port for only 8 pesos.

ENDLESS HORIZON

If you're unsure which resort to choose, just exit the port and head toward the police station. They can provide you with flyers and directions to various resorts.

When we visited, we asked about the best resorts on Samal Island, focusing on budget-friendly options. That's how we ended up deciding on Paradise Island!

We took a tricycle to Paradise Island, which was about a 10 to 15-minute ride. Just a heads-up: the road can be quite bumpy and rocky! We paid around 120 pesos for the fare.

If you're planning a day trip, keep in mind that the last boat ride back is at 5 PM. Unfortunately, we missed out on seeing the sunset from Samal Island. You can head straight to Paradise Island Resort by taking a ride from the Paradise Island Dock. Next time, we’ll definitely go that route—riding a tricycle can get pricey! Overall, it was a fun adventure!

PHILIPPINES: Pleasure Vacation at Misibis Bay

Misibis Bay is a private, luxurious resort located on Cagraray Island, just 45 minutes to 2 hours away from Legazpi City, Albay. They offer day tours for those who prefer not to stay overnight, with prices ranging from approximately 3,500 to 5,000 per person. This package includes pick-up and drop-off at your hotel, access to Misibis Bay's facilities, exciting water activities, and a delicious buffet lunch.

We opted for a day tour since staying overnight was a bit beyond our budget, but it was definitely worth the experience!

We were greeted by these men wearing tribe/native costume and they were actually dancing.

PHILIPPINES : BICOL for ADVENTURE - Legazpi City, Albay

If you're seeking an incredible adventure, Legazpi City in Albay has it all! Beyond just admiring the magnificent Mayon Volcano, you can take an exhilarating ride on an all-terrain vehicle to get up close and personal with this stunning natural wonder. While you're in Albay, be sure to savor their traditional dishes and delicacies, including Bicol Express, Laing, and the famous halo-halo at DJC. It’s a culinary experience you won’t want to miss!

MAYON VOLCANO

6 in the morning shot
Grab a cup of coffee, stand outside the balcony, feel the cold morning air, and gaze at this wonderful creation of God. It feels surreal.

DARAGA CHURCH

This church, known as The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Porteria (Our Lady of the Gate), is one of the oldest and most historically significant churches in Albay. It has been declared a Cultural Treasure by the National Museum, highlighting its importance. Additionally, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Mayon Volcano from the left side of the church, making it a perfect spot for both spiritual reflection and stunning scenery.

CAGSAWA RUINS

When the Mayon Volcano erupted, the Cagsawa Church was tragically destroyed, leaving only the bell tower standing as a testament to its history. This iconic structure is a poignant reminder of the past and has become a symbol of resilience in the face of natural disaster.

ZIP LINE at LIGNON HILL
Hi there Mayon!

HOYOP HOYOPAN CAVE

This cave is truly one of the best! It's incredibly clean, allowing you to fully enjoy the refreshing cool air inside. You'll find stunning formations of stalagmites and stalactites throughout, each one more mesmerizing than the last. If you have a wild and creative imagination, this place might just give you a thrilling sense of wonder—and maybe a little creepiness, too!

SEXY ONLY
If you manage to squeeze through this narrow exit, the tour guide claims you’re officially a certified sexy human being! Well, I'm sexy and I know it!!! 😉✨

ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE
LAVA WALL ADVENTURE

There's a  place near Cagsawa Ruins where in you can rent an ATV.

This trip lasts for 2 to 3 hours.

LAVA WALL
We looked like Angry birds because of our helmets, but wth, we are having fun

The highlight of the ATV Lava Wall Adventure was when it started to rain, yet we were determined to keep going. Watching my parents and baby sister have such a great time made me realize how many more adventures we could embark on together. I want them to break free from their routines and see that life outside of the office—and the stress of their jobs—can be incredibly rewarding.

This picture was captured by our tour guide, and it perfectly captures the moment when we got stuck because of the large rocks in the stream. My socks and shoes ended up soaking wet, which I didn't love, but overall, it was such a fun experience!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Together as a family, we can conquer anything! I'm so proud to say that we're standing at the foot of Mount Mayon in this picture!

It's a pity the rain rolled in, wrapping the majestic volcano in clouds, but it only adds to the mystery and beauty of this incredible place. 🌧️✨

I highly recommend the Oriental Legazpi Hotel for its fantastic accessibility to all the attractions in Legazpi City. Be sure to book a room with a balcony view of the stunning Mayon Volcano!

If you have time, make sure to visit Kawa Kawa Hill and Mayon Skyline. We went there, but unfortunately, the rain put a damper on our photo opportunities. Despite that, the views are still worth it!

LAING

It is really different from the Laing here in Manila.

It is really delicious.
BICOL EXPRESS (Sibid Sibid Restaurant)

This is the yummiest Bicol Express ever.

FAMOUS HALO-HALO at DJC

The cheese! Better than Razon's!
This is where you can buy pasalubongs for your loved ones!
Their Pili Nuts are the best! They also have packed dried laing

ASIA: Japan - Land of the Rising Sun

Japan is one of the most incredible countries I’ve ever visited in Asia. I had the chance to explore Japan in April 2014 with my family, and even though it was Spring, it was still quite chilly. We stayed in Shinjuku, Tokyo, for 7 days, and as a traveler from the Philippines, we needed to secure a visa beforehand.

Japan, much like Singapore, is impressively clean. The discipline they maintain is evident everywhere—especially on the roads. People strictly follow traffic signals and only cross at designated pedestrian lanes. Even when it comes to hailing taxis, you can't just flag one down in a hurry; you need to find designated taxi lanes, otherwise, you risk getting in trouble. Public cleanliness extends to smokers too, as you're expected to properly dispose of cigarette butts in the right places, not just anywhere on the street.

The people in Japan are the most polite I’ve ever encountered. Even though many don't speak English fluently, they always go out of their way to help you understand, using hand gestures or whatever means necessary. And when it comes to punctuality, the Japanese are second to none. If they say they’ll meet you at 10 a.m., they will be there at exactly that time, if not earlier. And they won’t wait if you’re late.

One moment that really stood out for me was on our way back to Shinjuku from Asakusa. Before switching train lines, my younger sister Martha needed to use the restroom. While I was in a cubicle, Martha, who had finished, was waiting outside. A kind woman not only helped her wash her hands but also handed her a towel. I was absolutely floored by the small yet meaningful act of kindness—it’s something I’ll always be grateful for.

During our trip, we mostly explored Tokyo on our own, and we took a day tour to see the stunning sights of Mt. Fuji and Hakone.

Tokyo Subway Route Map Click this! :D

Here are some of the must go places in and outside Tokyo, Japan

1. Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan

Shinjuku, Tokyo
First day at Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan!
Jam packed with different Japanese Restuarants, and stores
which sells gadgets that will surely make you go gaga!
Udon and Tonkatsu
We came across this Japanese restaurant which only caters Udon and Tonkatsu.
YUM!! There's my favorite Gyoza right there! But, a friend (Hi Den!) told me that
you can find the best Gyoza in Utsonomiya-shi, Tochigi, Japan (2 hours away from Tokyo).

Sushi go-round restaurant

Ramen house somewhere in the middle of Shinjuku

Thank you for this one fun night! Rum Cola and Karaoke night hyped my whole Tokyo Trip!
Credits to Den for this amazing photo!

Here in Shinjuku you can also find 24/7 Karaoke bar with unlimited drinks.

2. Mt. Fuji & Hakone

Mt. Fuji
Mt. Fuji is Japan’s highest mountain, and its beauty is absolutely majestic, especially with the snow-capped crater. It feels like a trip to Japan wouldn't be complete without seeing this iconic landmark. Although it’s a bit far from the bustling heart of Tokyo, the journey is completely worth it once you witness Mt. Fuji in all its glory. The view is truly breathtaking, and it’s one of those moments that leaves a lasting impression on you.
We availed the tour at Viator. It is a trustworthy travel site.

I might as well show you some of our photos in Mt. Fuji (Station 1)
Lake Ashi
We had a 15-minute boat ride at The Lake Ashi and arrived at
Hakone National Park. Then we went ahead to Mt. Kachi kachi ropeway
and rode on a tram to the top of the mountain. There, you can see a panoramic view
of The Lake Ashi, Mt. Fuji and the Owakidani Volcanic Valley.

Bullet train
We took a bullet train to Shinagawa and transferred to a
JR Yamanote Line to Shinjuku.

3. Imperial Palace

4. Nakamise-dori Street

Best place to buy pasalubong! They all have the legit Japanese products from keychain to Kimono.

5. Sensoji (Asakusa Kannon Temple)

OMIKUJI - A Written Fortune
In one of Japan’s traditional customs, you’ll come across a unique way to receive your fortune. You start by shaking a steel box while silently praying, and eventually, a wooden stick will fall out. Each stick has a Japanese symbol on it, and you’ll find its matching symbol on one of the drawers nearby. Once you locate the drawer, pull it open and take out the paper inside—it holds your fortune. The best part is, these fortunes are translated, so no matter where you’re from, you’ll be able to understand the message written on the paper. It’s a fascinating cultural experience!

Whether your fortune turns out to be good or bad, there’s really no need to worry too much. After all, you are the one who shapes your own destiny. I found it to be a delightful experience to finally try this tradition and immerse myself in Japanese culture. It’s a fun way to connect with the local customs while reflecting on the idea that we have the power to create our own fortunes!

Who wouldn't want to try a legit takoyaki?
Arigato Gozaimasu for posing, Kuya. Your Takoyaki deserves more than that.

6. Tokyo Sky Tree

Visiting at night is truly the best way to experience this place, as the lights create a magical atmosphere that will leave you in awe! A big thank you to Tita Julie for picking us up at Sensoji Temple and bringing us here—your thoughtfulness made the evening even more special!

7. The Meiji Jingu Shrine Tokyo

Temple dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his wife Empress Shoken.
You must wash your hands and mouth before you enter and pray at the temple

The stunning view inside the temple vicinity

8. Hachiko (Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan)

9. Shibuya Crossing

Shibuya Crossing
Shibuya Crossing is conveniently located right by the Shibuya Station (Hachiko Exit) and is renowned as one of the busiest intersections in the world, with countless people crossing at any given moment. It's not just a bustling hub; Shibuya is also a fantastic shopping destination. You’ll find popular brands like Forever 21, H&M, Bershka, and Uniqlo, making it the perfect spot for a shopping spree!

For the love of Ramen! I can eat you everyday for my entire life. HEAVEN!

10. Harajuku

Here you can also find lots of good stuff! This is a good place to go for shopping!
Also, you can see people dressed like cosplayers and alike.

11. Ginza

Welcome to bag heaven! From Furla to Louis Vuitton, Chanel to Prada, high-end brands are everywhere you look! There's no way I could leave without treating myself to a new bag. Material Girl by Madonna is playing on repeat, setting the perfect vibe for a fabulous shopping spree in Ginza!

12. DISNEY SEA!

DISNEY SEA! The only Disney Sea in the whole world!

We bought our tickets online to avoid long queue.

Funahashi Family
I had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful Funahashi family at Mermaid Lagoon in Disney Sea! It was such a joy to connect with you all, and Martha had an amazing time playing with your adorable girl. Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

To wrap it all up, you absolutely must visit Japan! There’s so much more to see and experience! ❤️ If anyone were to ask me if I’d go back, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second—I definitely would! Sure, it might hurt your wallet a bit, but I promise it will be worth every penny!
