ASIA: Side Trip to Kyoto 2016

Kyoto is also part of Kansai Region, and only 1.5 hours away from Osaka by train. Since we had an extra day in our itinerary, going to Kyoto is a perfect way to pass the time. Japan is well known for its cultural richness and historical treasures, and one way to experience this is by visiting Kyoto. This city is-more than meets the eye. There are hidden gems in-between buildings and busy streets. While roaming around Kyoto, you will see people wearing Kimonos, old buildings, Temples, Shrines, and more historical sites -  where tourists will surely devour and be inspired.
How to get to Kyoto?

- Book a flight to Kansai International Airport (KIX) - Osaka, then, take a bus or a train going to Kyoto

-From Osaka, I would suggest to go there by train. Though going by bus is also an option, train is just more convenient and the fastest way to get there.

We took the JR Kyoto Line from Osaka/Umeda station (cost Y560 each), and alight at Kyoto station. There are many options to choose from when travelling to Kyoto. It depends on where you are coming from in Osaka, and where in Kyoto you are going to. But, if you are a tourist just like me, take the JR Kyoto Line to get directly to Kyoto.

Where to stay in Kyoto?

We went there for day tour only, and went back to Osaka later that night. Or, you can also book a room in the city, and enjoy a day more.

Should I take a bus or train when going on tour?

You can actually take both, but if you are on a tight budget and worrying where the train stations are located, going on tour by bus is perfect for you. Just outside the Kyoto Station, beside the bus station, you will see a ticket office for bus tours. They offer unlimited day passes for tourists, and costs Y500 each for adult. A map or list of bus stops will be given to you after purchasing the ticket. These buses stop at attractions and famous landmarks in the city. If you are worrying about the next stops or which stop you should get off. The buses have monitors in front and flashes the next stop - which is translated in english.

Places we visited in Kyoto, Japan
1.  Arashiyama -
Tenryu-ji Temple,Sogenchi Garden, and Bamboo Groves

2. Higashiyama District - Traditional Old Kyoto

3. Fushimi Inari-taisha
This is one of the famous landmarks in Kyoto ; thousands of tourists and locals come here.  It would be best to come here at night - though kind of scary - to avoid heavy foot traffic in the area.
